Barceló weaves links between his artistic practices and those of writing and reading.

Books as aesthetic objects and reading as a theme have been present in art since the Middle Ages. As an attribute of a character, enabling him or her to be identified as a saint, a scholar or a reader, it becomes an image of the activity of the mind and of knowledge, the possibility of opening up to the world and experiencing it.

Miquel Barceló has been exploring the plasticity of the book from the outset; it is, along with flora and fauna, at the heart of his work. But rather than seeking to refer to a particular literary source, the artist's aim is to represent that which nourishes him, constitutes him and links him to life.
